Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Re: How old were you at your first Dead show?

First heard E72 in cousin's Brooklyn basement Christmas? 1972. Was 14 and told him bass was turned up too high or something. Year or two later had enough of Jagger's jumpsuits and McCartney's Wings - thought I should give the 'grateful airplane' guys another listen.

Friend's hip brother (who already moved on to "much hipper stuff" velvets, roxy music) gave us all his 'old' Dead (albums no tapes) but it was Bear's Choice that did it. Couldn't get enough - but now it's late '74. No Dead and not the same Dead anyway but - Jerry! 11/1/75, 3/30/76, 4/2/76. Oh and Kingfish/Keith & Donna 11/7/75.

Won some lottery? and right to buy 4 tickets GD Beacon 6/14+15/76.
Here's what I heard : http://archive.org/details/gd76-06-14.sbd.hollister.22804.sbeok.shnf

'It' for me is that sweet, special Jerry tone. Dylan said it best, "He's the very spirit personified of whatever is Muddy River country at its core and screams up into the spheres...His playing was moody, awesome, sophisticated, hypnotic and subtle." Amen. Live, sure, but now I get it here too - twirling comfortably at home.
